Independent.
Stubbornly so.

A family-run fire alarm company from Angmering, West Sussex, looking after homes and businesses across the South East since 2009.

Why we do things
differently

Coastal Fire Systems has been family-run since 2009. Our Managing Director, Darren Power, started out as an apprentice with a large fire protection company and went on to work for two more national firms before setting up on his own. Along the way he saw what gets lost as businesses grow: the personal touch. Customers become account numbers, the engineer changes every visit, and work gets recommended to hit a sales target rather than because the building needs it.

Darren has worked hard to build something better. We only recommend work when it genuinely needs doing, and we'll tell you when it doesn't. Our engineers are our own, so the people who survey your building are usually the people who install it and look after it for years afterwards.

It's why customers stay with us, and why so many of them recommend us to others.

Modern systems, same personal service

Behind the scenes, we're moving from tried-and-tested pen and paper to modern systems for certificates, service reports, quotes and bookings. The aim is simple: keep everything that works about the old way, lose the faff, and make dealing with us quicker and easier than ever.

Working with the trade

Builders, electrical contractors and M&E firms bring us in as their fire alarm subcontractor on new builds and refurbishments, with the same standards and the same paperwork.

In our own words

I started out as an apprentice with a big fire protection company and went on to work for two more national firms. Too often the personal touch got lost, and work was recommended to hit a target rather than because a building needed it.

That's why I set up Coastal Fire Systems in 2009. We only recommend what genuinely needs doing, the people who quote your system are the people who look after it, and when something goes wrong, at 3pm or 3am, you'll speak to someone who knows your building.

My job is moving us from tried-and-tested pen and paper to modern systems, without losing what made the old way work. Certificates, reports and bookings should be as simple as they've always been, just quicker and with less faff for you.

What won't change is the personal service the business was built on.

The standards we work to

Every job follows the relevant British Standard and fire safety law. Here's what that means in practice.

BS 5839-1

Commercial fire alarms

The code of practice for fire detection and alarm systems in non-domestic buildings, covering design, installation, commissioning and maintenance.

BS 5839-6

Homes & HMOs

The code of practice for fire alarms in homes. It sets system grades (A, C, D1, D2, F1, F2) and levels of cover (LD1 to LD3), and HMO licensing schemes often refer to it.

Fire Safety Order 2005

Your legal duty

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order puts a duty on the Responsible Person for non-domestic premises to assess, manage and record fire risk.

Let's talk about your building.

A free survey, a fixed written quote and no hard sell.
